Have you upgraded to Wordpress 2.5.1 yet?

If you haven’t, then you might want to get cracking. As written in this article “Has your Wordpress been hacked recently”, a very invasive hack is showing up on more and more Wordpress installations. The key to entry appears to be leaving your uploads directory CHMOD to 777 - something which many bloggers do in order to allow photo uploads. Once you’re infected it can take hours to clean things up (and yes, I do speak from experience!)

Don’t take any more risks - get the latest upgrade. And while you’re at it, pick up the Wordpress Upgrade plugin and make keep your install secure that much easier!

The Wordpress plugin competition

Yup, you read right - another Wordpress Plugin competition has begun! Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place (rather than the old category-based system). I love these comeptitions because not only do they spice up my summer, but they trigger some amazing development. All plugins will be GPL licensed and available for download through the official Wordpress Plugin Competition Blog.

I can’t wait to see what competitors come up with! Last year’s winners were outstanding, including:

Vhosts by Skippy
Secure Login, also by Skippy
Static Jack by Jack Born
Popularity Contest by Alex King
LMB^Box Comment Quicktags by Montie

Wordpress 2.1.1 urgent upgrade

If you downloaded Wordpress 2.1.1 in the last few days, it is urgent that you upgrade your installation immediately. It now appears that unauthorized access to the wordpress.org servers was gained by a hacker and malicious code inserted into the Wordpress 2.1.1 download files.

If you downloaded these files in the last few days, you are strongly urged to download the fix, version 2.1.2 from the download page.
