If you’re excited to start your own blog, but you want to test the waters before buying hosting, then you might consider one of these FREE Wordpress Blog hosts. Just keep in mind, you will be getting a SUBDOMAIN, not a domain, which means that if you ever decide to move your blog - well, then you’re going to lose your traffic and have to start over. If you’re absolutely sure you won’t need to move, EVER, then these can be a great low-budget way to go. But if you’re not suire - you might at LEAST want to get a domain name.

Wordpress.com

Is anyone really surprised? All the tools, frequent patches and updates, and a great community to showcase your blogging skills. Probably the number one choice for amateur bloggers looking to get started quickly. Downsides? Well, if you were planning to make money from your blog, this is probably not going to be a good fit for you. This service focuses on quality blogs with little or no advertising - especially no paid posting. But if you want to do a fun, hobby blog this will most likely be a perfect fit. They also offer a paid service upgrade if you need to grow.

Blogsome.com

Very similar to Wordpress.com in structure and execution. So long as you are creating your own original content (and why else would you have a blog?) they are very liberal with allowing advertisements. Translation - almost every blog on this service appeared to have been thrown up on by Google Adsense. I’d probably avoid this one as with this much adsense spam, it will soon be in the Google ghetto, if it isn’t already.
